The Daffodil

Sitting in my temporary studio/office watching part of a film project render and the weather outside, dull cold and damp (typical British autumn).
Though I’d post a cheerful image hence the Daffodil, bit of and ironic meaning to such a beautiful flower really “deceitful hopes”

Halcyon Days

Well I think winters on its way, the warm halcyon sunny days are beginning to disappear and become a distant memory. Summer holidays all taken, winter woolies being dragged out of the wardrobe.
The signal for me is the first frosts laying on the ground, the last cut of my lawn for another season and my log shed is full to the rafters. (loaded a couple of tons of fire wood in there the other night, that warmed me up)

Oh yes the image............. Warm sunny days at the zoo with the family (not mine) I think Dad was more interested in the ice cream van :)

Le Chat

Back from my travels, wishing I was still on the road. Came to the conclusion whilst away, sometimes you can try to hard to look and you'll never see. I think this is true at many differant levels.
Suppose I better get back to doing stuff I can't see :)

Sub Note
Le chat never moved for the four hours I was at the restaurant, must of been something good on TV

An Interesting Little Article about Facebook

For all you budding photographers out there ........ think twice before posting you photos on Facebook!!!!

http://blog.exposedplanet.com/why-sharing-photos-on-facebook-is-bad-for-you/

I think I will be pulling most of my images down off FB even with watermarks and copyrights.
The best rout will be to link from elsewhere.

Derelict

I was asked yesterday why I’ve started pulling the colour back in my images, and the answer I gave made them look at me a little puzzled “because I’m telling a story”............

I’m looking for a reality in the images, giving them a colder light/feel, to help push what is depicted in the photograph further into the mind of the viewer........ make them think.

I admit the story I’m trying to put over might be total different to what’s in the minds eye of the viewer, but if it creates a thought, feeling or reaction even if only for a split second then I would consider the image has done what I intended it to do.

This set of Derelict images made me stop and think about who lived there, what their lives must have been like and why was it now empty. The life cycle of a house.

It might be quite a trivial thought but you could build a whole generation in you mind within a split second.

A Day Off

A day off (well sort of), first time in many years I managed to get the bike out of the work shop and go for a Sunday run out with a group of like minded bikers and what a fantastic day.
Met at the local pub 8:30am, twenty five bike in all and a great mixed bag of machinery, Harley's, crotch rockets my sick running Ducati and many more.
Destination the Ace Cafe in North London, a place with a great history and heritage. The birth place of the Cafe Racer I believe.
Its been a long time since I rode in such a largish group, I would think about 10 year and to ride at the back and watch this snake of tail light winding around the twisty roads was magic.
We only lost three bikes by the end of the day, two punchers and a minor road accident, the bike looked a bit battered but the ride got up and walked away :)
I think it dose you good every now and again to have a release from the daily stress and garbage that seems to surounds us, to forget and just stay focus on the black ribbon in front of you.
I hope its not to long before I can find the time again to ride out and enjoy the day.
There's a few more images on the web site from the day www.picture180.com/galleries/life_2011/index.html

Wednesday 1 June 2011

Home again home again.

Back from South America very difficult project but we got there in the end.

Due to the contractual commitments I was unable to spend any time on my own photography, only managed half a day in Sao Paulo.

For some reason I ended up at the Luz Train Station, not really interested in the history or architecture but the movement of people though rush hour. Also the place has this gritty feel to it, I think it has something to do with the surrounding area.

Standing watching the crowds flow like waves as the trains came in and out there seemed to be a manic rhythm, moments of total peace then the rush. Pushing and pulling of arms and legs, people falling over each other. Then stop peace again.

It also made me think about destination, all these people going somewhere.

A small poem by Archibald Lampman

The Railway Station

The darkness brings no quiet here, the light

No waking: ever on my blinded brain

The flare of lights, the rush, and cry, and strain,

The engines' scream, the hiss and thunder smite:

I see the hurrying crowds, the clasp, the flight,

Faces that touch, eyes that are dim with pain:

I see the hoarse wheels turn, and the great train

Move labouring out into the bourneless night.

So many souls within its dim recesses,

So many bright, so many mournful eyes:

Mine eyes that watch grow fixed with dreams and guesses;

What threads of life, what hidden histories,

What sweet or passionate dreams and dark distresses,

What unknown thoughts, what various agonies!

It sound a bit depressing but the light was fading, it seemed quite apt.

A foot note:

Be very aware of who’s around you especially if you on your own and in the third biggest city in the world .......... with a camera in your hand, it can get quite unnerving.
